Things to Do in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio

The Strip is the mile-long stretch of Lake Road East (State Route 531) lined with arcades, snack stands, bars and small shops. It has drawn summer crowds for decades, and most of the places below sit on it or just off it. Start at the GOTL Welcome Center at 5540 Lake Rd. E. for maps and the Lake Life mural by artist Lisa Quine.

★ Good to know Kids can pick up a free Family Fun Trail passport at the Welcome Center and hunt for clues at 17 stops along the Strip; the center is open daily May through September.

The 698-acre state park sits on the lake at the west end of the village. It has a sand swimming beach, freshwater marshes and estuaries, hiking and multi-use trails, fishing and boating. There’s a family campground, and the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, opened in 2004, has rooms and cottages next door.

★ Good to know Campground reservations are required, and every campsite allows pets.

Built in 1924, this 18-hole course bills itself as the oldest miniature golf course in continuous play in the United States. The design was based on the rooftop courses going up on New York skyscrapers at the time. The Allison family bought it in 1981 and still runs it at 5456 Lake Rd. E.

★ Good to know It’s open weekends in May, then daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, plus the weekend after Labor Day; Grumpy’s Lemonade is right next door.

Eddie Sezon was 17 when he opened this stand in the summer of 1950 with root beer, shakes, fries, hot dogs and cheeseburgers. The menu has barely grown since, adding Slovenian sausage, a fish sandwich and a Dairy Queen counter in 1952. The chili dog sauce is his late mother Mary’s recipe.

★ Good to know It’s seasonal, opening each spring and closing after summer, so check before an off-season trip.

This winery and restaurant fills the village’s first fire station, a few steps off the Strip, and it’s open year-round. In summer the Sunset Patio and Sunset Bar look straight out over Lake Erie, with live music most nights. The menu runs from burgers and wraps to barbecue chicken and ribs.

★ Good to know Its 1956 Erieview Park Ferris wheel was knocked over in a 2026 storm, so check whether it’s running before you count on a ride.

Next to the Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake, this is the largest aerial adventure park east of Cleveland. Guided zip line tours reach 60 feet up and about 30 mph. Self-guided adventure courses have more than 30 rope challenges, with separate courses for kids.

★ Good to know It’s at 4888 N. Broadway Ave. and runs seasonally from spring into fall; book ahead on summer weekends.

The Ashtabula County Historical Society, founded in 1838, runs this museum in the house where Jennie Munger Gregory spent roughly 40 summers. It was among the resort’s first boarding houses, and she left it to the society, which has owned it since 1961. It’s at 5685 Lake Rd. E., at the quieter east end of town.

★ Good to know Guided tours run in summer and a fee is charged; check the society’s schedule before you go.

Geneva-on-the-Lake sits at the top of the Grand River Valley wine region, and several wineries are a short drive south. Ferrante Winery & Ristorante on Route 307 comes from a family making wine since 1937. Debonne Vineyards in Madison, founded in 1972, calls itself Ohio’s largest estate winery and also brews beer as Double Wing Brewing Co.

★ Good to know Laurello Vineyards, Cask 307 and Grand River Cellars are on the same loop if you want to make a day of it; pick a driver.
